You and your good buddy entered a photo contest the other day...
And boy, oh boy, we thought MAYBE we might be able to win, but like... taking a lead this early with only a few days left in the competition? WAAAAH?
This super fucking adorable cat is in this contest too, by the way. I was like how is this sweet prince not NUMBER ONE yet??? He’s hilarious. A little cat entry.. in a Dogs of Summer contest lol Just give him the prize, already.
I knew that it was a contest that was not widely advertised.
i knew that the winner was based on the most votes.
I knew that people won’t actually go through each photo and choose the real best/cutest photos (there are 100+ contestants).
I knew that i had a handful of friends and family that wouldn't mind me bugging them every day to vote.
I knew that there was a slight chance that if I annoyed enough people, we could win.
& if you can't win, don't play.
So we played hard. At the time of entering the contest the other day, the highest vote was around 50. The contest had 14 days left, so that meant getting 5 or so votes a day minimum.. we'd take the lead. Shit, even if i just messaged half of my family on my dad’s side and texted 3 friends, we would be in the top 3 in no time. So I texted, messaged, and posted on social media (even the ancient social media platform Facebook) to solicit votes. I had no shame. And while i felt dumb at first, i started getting heart warming replies. Some of my cousins were asking their friends and coworkers to vote, my technologically disadvantaged uncles were figuring out how to vote on their phone, and my best friend was rooting me on, encouraging me to tell everyone and their moms. I was taken back.
It's the biggest little thing when someone actually takes a minute out of their day for me. Especially nowadays, when all we ever do is continuously and mindlessly scroll on our phones. Reading but not really reading, looking but not really paying attention. Seeking max levels of “lulz” with the littlest effort possible. Not many people will actually take their time to do something for someone else without having a little something to gain. If it has nuffin’ to do with us, why should we care? Even if it's a simple: click on the link, enter your email address, prove you're not a robot, and then click vote. Sometimes it hurts the thumbs to even press the one “share” button. And yet, I am lucky enough to have friends and family that will take time to do that and then some. They waste their time to hype us up to their friends and family as well.
So thank you. If you're reading this, you're more than likely have been hella supportive of not only Kuma but of me. You may have done all kinds of clicking from the contest to here. Thank you. You’ve allowed me to waste a few moments/minutes of your time and I’m sure you value your time as much as i do. I am a broken record but i will never get tired of repeating this over and over again, i appreciate the fuck out of you.
And while Kuma may not be the poster boy for adventure dogs, it don’t matter. We are loved by so many wonderous people that I don't care if we win this. I could not care less if someone ends up with the lead and takes first place. We ain’t losing out on anything. We don't need to go to Colorado or win free doggy stuff that bad.. but we also won't give up easily. Not without a fight, ferda.. a lil scrap bud, a litto donny brook, just a little warm up brawl boys.
If you’re new here, you can help us in our efforts to keep Kuma on his first place throne:
& yes, i am insufferable. I still cannot function without a LetterKenny/Shoresy accent.
