Someone once told me that snowboarding is just like skateboarding, you just have to FiNd YoUr BaLaNcE. THIS IS FALSE. Never has someone been as wrong as they are when they told me this. In skateboarding, you can either push to gain speed or let the friction of the ground slow you down. Sinchy, amirite? NO ಠ╭╮ಠ This is not the case with snowboarding. Whomever told me this, sinungaling ka (ಥ﹏ಥ) In tagalog, sinungaling means LIAR!!!! I had been hoodwinked lol No one ever snowboarded on level ground and got anywhere. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I should have known that snowboarding is just basically a downhill death trap. But I was never told that even the bunny slopes would be so.. steep for a newb. So if you have not yet snowboarded, here is what I learned from my vast experience of the three whole ass days of snowboarding i’ve done as a newb to heed you from the lies and deceit when someone tells you iTs EaSy.
You can’t take your feet off the board since it’s strapped in, which make it immensely difficult when getting back up after eating shit. I spent half the time trying to get back up without a) falling down again and b) sliding down the hill on the opposite footing.
If you do not partake in leg day, your legs will cramp after a few runs.. probably three. Which will lead you to eat more shit as your legs give out.
the only way to slow down is to either eat shit or learn how to stop - which as a newb learning how to stop means forcing a landing and eating some shit
if there is fresh powder, eating shit is not half as bad as eating shit on frozen ice. Trying to get out of being buried in powder will make you even more tired though.
if you’re afraid to eat shit, you’re going to eat shit either way so i just learned to embrace it. After all, the adrenaline rush will make you feel invincible.. no matter how hard the last tumble was.
So the lesson here is, eating shit is inevitable. I’m not sure if this was intuitive but no one ever told me actually how much i would eat. I can skateboard and i’ve ate shit a couple times but not as much or as bad as i have snowboarding. Though, i don’t think at this age I can handle going down a hill on a skateboard without the fear of an expensive medical bill. There’s so many possibilities.. running into a pole, a mailbox or god forbid the chihuahua down the street who hates life comes chasing after you. I can’t handle all that anxiety. So if you’ve ever considered snowboarding, i highly recommend it. It is HELLA fun despite the aftermath pains. There’s nothing like finally going down the bunny slopes and eating shit just once, instead of a dozen times. It’s exhilarating and frankly, it’s fun eating shit and watching your friends eat shit while you’re all at it too. No matter if you’ve had two days of experience or eight years, everyone eats shit. So why the fuck not have some fun and eat shit in the best weather? the damn snow!!! It’s 10/10 way better than eating shit on concrete. I love it and i’ll do it over and over again if I could afford it. Please enjoy the following Tiktok of my friends eating shit. Out of all the crashing and falling I did, i was lucky enough to not have it captured on video on our last snowboarding trip.
PS. Happy New Year Nerds!!!
PSS. Look at this snowman I built all by myself. I was also not aware how hard it was to build a snowman and it’s not as cool looking as the one from Frozen. Yikes lol
